Each year on the Sunday closest to the date of August 15, the Armenian Church celebrates the Feast of the Assumption of St. Mary, the Holy Mother of God. In the Calendar of the Armenian Church, this feast is the fourth of five major feasts that are commemorated, and is the oldest one dedicated to St. Mary.<\/p>\n
This feast, which is also\u00a0called the Dormition,\u00a0commemorates the death, resurrection and glorification of Christ\u2019s mother. It proclaims that Mary has been \u201cassumed\u201d by God into the heavenly kingdom of Christ in the fullness of her spiritual and bodily existence.<\/p>\n
In the Holy Bible, there is little information concerning the details of St. Mary\u2019s life. As a result, the story of her Assumption has been preserved and passed on to us through the Holy and Sacred Tradition of the Apostolic Church.<\/p>\n
